STATEMENT ON PIP IMPLANTS – MONDAY 9TH JANUARY 2012
I would like to take the opportunity to update you on the current PIP breast implant situation.
Firstly, I would like to make clear to all patients that my practice stopped using the PIP implants in May 2006. Therefore any patient that had a breast implant operation of any kind from our practice after this time will not have had a PIP implant inserted. . Since May 2006 I have used implants made by Allergan, Eurosurgical and Silimed all of which are highly respected providers that give a warrantly with each set of implants.
With respect to patients who have had PIP implants inserted by myself, I will make myself freely available to any previous patient who requires support in the form of a consultation, examination and discussion with regards to any issues surrounding the PIP implants. I am keen to offer as much reassurance as I can and will be providing my time free of charge as well as medical records to any patients that requests them.
During this time I will do my utmost to clarify, explain, and reassure patients as well as try to address any unresolved issues related to these implants. When appropriate, I will advise ultrasound imaging to confirm the integrity of the implant shell. Provided this shows no evidence of rupture, and there are no other clinical indications then, in accordance with the government findings, there will be no need for the implants to be exchanged.
Patient care is of upmost important to myself and the entire Karidis team and we will do all we can to offer continued support and reassurance to patients.
